What if losing almost everything became the beginning of building the life you'd always dreamed of?
Join us for an inspiring evening with Betty Seaman, natural builder, educator, mentor, and longtime advocate for sustainable living, as she shares her extraordinary journey from surviving in a tent with her young family to creating a thriving homestead built almost entirely by hand.
In 2001, Betty, her husband, and their three young children found themselves living on raw land with little more than determination, a small inheritance, and a dream. With no construction experience—and not even enough money to purchase a trailer—Betty borrowed money to attend a six-day workshop with renowned cob-building pioneer Ianto Evans.
She returned home with a simple but life-changing realization:
Anyone can build.
That single lesson transformed not only her family's future but eventually the lives of hundreds of students she has since inspired around the world.
Over the following years, Betty and her family built a village of beautiful cob homes by hand. Today, those same children have grown into accomplished builders themselves, carrying forward the skills, confidence, and independence they learned from the earth beneath their feet.
During this inspiring Speaker Series, Betty will share:
🏡 How one family transformed hardship into opportunity through natural building
🌿 What cob construction is—and why it has become a worldwide movement for sustainable living
🔥 Building homes that are healthy, beautiful, energy-efficient, and increasingly fire-resilient
🌎 The importance of using local, natural materials instead of extractive building practices
👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 How building together strengthens families, creates community, and empowers future generations
đźš˝ Living off-grid, composting toilets, and practical lessons from more than two decades of sustainable homesteading
đź’š Why teaching children to build can foster confidence, creativity, and a lifelong sense of agency
❓Audience Q&A
Drawing inspiration from years of practicing Aikido, Betty approaches building not as a battle against nature, but as a partnership with it—working with natural forces rather than against them. That philosophy has become the foundation of her teaching, mentoring, and community outreach.
Her guiding philosophy is beautifully simple:
"We can need and want less. Everything we need is here."
Whether you're interested in sustainable architecture, homesteading, environmental stewardship, affordable housing, or simply hearing an extraordinary story of resilience and perseverance, you'll leave inspired by what can happen when courage, creativity, and community come together.
This is more than a conversation about building homes.
It's about building lives.
