And we're keeping it small.
✨ JUST 8 SPOTS AVAILABLE
Our inaugural group will learn from Kiki Wells, a longtime American Mahjong teacher, in a relaxed, intimate setting designed specifically for beginners.
No experience necessary.
No need to know a Bam from a Dot. 😉
Just bring your curiosity and we'll take it from there.

Your private beginner series includes:

Because Mahjong isn't just a game.
It's strategy. It's tradition. It's a little bit addictive. And perhaps best of all, it's an excuse to gather around a table with other people. 🀄❤️
📅 SO...WHEN DO WE START?
That's up to you!
We're gathering our first group of interested players now. Once we have enough interest, we'll coordinate dates and get our first six-lesson series on the calendar.

This is your sign. 🀄
📚🍷 CLEMENTINE CARTER BOOK CLUB 🍷📚 GOOD BOOKS. GOOD WINE. GREAT CONVERSATION. Readers wanted!
We’re thinking about starting something new around the Clementine Carter table — and first, we want to know:
WHO WANTS TO JOIN OUR BOOK CLUB? 📖
The Clementine Carter Book Club would bring together readers, wine lovers, curious minds, and great conversationalists for Thursday evenings of books, wine, ideas, debate, laughter, and connection.
And yes — men AND women are absolutely invited!
In fact, Sonja already has a question for you…
🤔 MEN READ NON-FICTION. WOMEN READ FICTION. TRUE OR FALSE?
It’s often said that men tend to gravitate toward non-fiction while women are more likely to read fiction.
But is that actually true around our table?
What do YOU read?
📖 Novels?
🌎 History?
🧠 Psychology?
🍷 Food & wine?
✈️ Travel & adventure?
🔬 Science?
🎨 Art & culture?
🕵️ Mysteries?
📝 Memoirs & biographies?
💡 Big ideas and books that make you see the world differently?
Maybe the most interesting book club is one where we don't all reach for the same shelf.
🍷📚 WHAT WE'RE ENVISIONING
Thursday evenings | 5:30–7:00 PM
📍 Clementine Carter Wines Tasting Room | Los Alamos
A relaxed gathering where the book gives us somewhere to begin — but the conversation can take us anywhere.
Read something you might never have chosen yourself.
Hear an interpretation you hadn't considered.
Disagree with someone — pleasantly. 😉
Discover a new author.
Pour a glass of wine. Order something from Babi’s Kafana.
And spend an evening talking about something other than what you watched on your phone that day.
📅 IMPORTANT: WE DON'T HAVE A START DATE YET!
Right now, we're gathering interest.
If we get a quorum — Sonja's word! 😂 — we'll bring our inaugural group together, choose our first book, establish the schedule, and send everyone the details.
So if you see Clementine Carter Book Club listed on a particular Thursday on our events calendar, please don't assume that's our first meeting.

What happens when contemporary art moves out of the traditional gallery—and into the field?
Join us for National Chain + Jiu Jitsu, a special installation presented as part of In the Field, the artist series hosted by Monique van Genderen at her MVG Social Practice Gallery in Lompoc.
For this iteration, internationally recognized artists Rita McBride and Glen Rubsamen join van Genderen in a series of collaborative interventions that respond directly to the gallery's unusual setting: an artist-run alleyway space where art encounters the architecture, materials, signage, systems, and visual language of everyday commercial and public life.
Rather than separating art from the world around it, National Chain + Jiu Jitsu plays with the very things we use to construct and organize that world.
The result invites us to look differently at objects and environments we might otherwise pass without a second thought.
Expect an evening exploring:

Drawing on backgrounds in hospitality, events, business, and a shared passion for wine, food, and community, the couple has expanded Longoria's reach while remaining committed to the artistry and craftsmanship that built its reputation. 🏡🌿 Speaker Series: Passive Architecture: Buildings That Breathe Featuring: Ben McDonald, Architect & Co-Owner of Site Specific
What if your home could be healthier, more comfortable, more energy efficient... and actually work with nature instead of against it?
Join architect, designer, craftsman, and self-proclaimed granola maker Ben McDonald for a fascinating evening exploring the art and science of passive architecture—a thoughtful approach to designing buildings that are beautiful, functional, sustainable, and deeply connected to their environment.
Ben wants people to love buildings not simply for how they look...
…but for what they do.
Creating spaces that feel timeless and satisfying begins with understanding the materials themselves—wood, stone, concrete, glass—and learning to listen to what each one naturally wants to become. Through thoughtful design and countless intentional decisions, these materials come together to create homes that breathe, age gracefully, and support the people who live within them.
As Ben likes to say:
"Think of architecture as group therapy for bricks, land, and people."
During this engaging Speaker Series, Ben will explore:
🍇🚜 Taste the Landscape: Vineyard Immersion with Sonja Magdevski - THE SEASON OF REST

🎨✨ Speaker Series: Rethinking the Ordinary: Art, Architecture & the Spaces Between Featuring Internationally Acclaimed Artist & Sculptor Rita McBride
What happens when an artist looks at something most of us walk past every day—a railing, an awning, a set of bleachers, a barrier—and sees something entirely different?
Join us for a very special evening with internationally acclaimed artist and sculptor Rita McBride, whose extraordinary career has taken her work to museums, galleries, and public spaces around the world—and who also happens to call Los Alamos, California, home.
For nearly four decades, Rita has explored the fascinating territory where art, architecture, design, infrastructure, and everyday life collide.
Rather than simply creating objects to be viewed from a distance, her work often asks us to reconsider the structures surrounding us: the things that organize where we sit, where we walk, how we gather, how we move through public spaces—and even how we look.
Her practice ranges from intimate sculptural objects to enormous public commissions and immersive installations created in collaboration with architects, engineers, physicists, performers, designers, and other artists.
During this fascinating Speaker Series conversation, we'll explore:

Just in time for the most celebratory season of the year, we're popping some corks and exploring the wonderfully diverse world of sparkling wine! 🥂
Join winemaker Sonja Magdevski for a super fun tasting of sparkling wine - bubble by bubble.
For this tasting, we're going beyond a single grape and exploring an entire style of winemaking.
🥂 SANTA BARBARA + BEYOND
Not all bubbles are created equal.
Different grapes. Different regions. Different methods. Different expressions.
We'll taste and compare sparkling wines from Santa Barbara and beyond, exploring how place, grape variety, winemaking technique, and time can transform those tiny bubbles in your glass.
Why are some sparkling wines crisp and citrusy while others are rich and creamy?
What creates those wonderful aromas of apple, brioche, flowers, toast, or stone fruit?
And what actually puts the sparkle in sparkling wine?
This is your chance to taste, compare, ask questions, and discover what you really love — because understanding wine doesn't have to be intimidating.
It should be delicious.

🍸🍋 Speaker Series: How to Make a Great Cocktail Featuring Rock 12 Distillery — Distillery of the Year
What separates a perfectly balanced cocktail from a glass of booze, juice, and good intentions?
Come find out.
Join us for a spirited evening with the team behind Rock 12 Distillery, Santa Barbara County's farm-to-glass distillery nestled along the Sta. Rita Hills Wine Trail, as we learn the secrets behind one of life's great pleasures:
A really, really good cocktail.
Founded by Sarah and Marko Suput, Rock 12 has a story almost as interesting as what's in the glass. Marko comes from generations of Serbian distillers, and the distillery's copper pot still was handmade by a master craftsman in Serbia before making its way to California.
Sarah and Marko took that Old World tradition and gave it a distinctly Santa Barbara County identity—planting an orchard and creating small-batch spirits from locally grown fruit.
And now they're coming to Los Alamos to teach us how to put those spirits to very good use.
During this lively Speaker Series, we'll explore:

Whether you're here to dominate the leader-board or simply enjoy a glass of wine with friends, every month brings a fresh theme, interactive mini-games, music, and plenty of surprises.
This month's challenge asks one very important question...
🎒 Are You Smarter Than Your Younger Self?
Remember when you could recite all fifty states, identify every planet, solve long division, and name the bones in the human body... all without Google?
Let's find out how much of that knowledge is still tucked away in your brain!
We'll revisit the subjects you learned in elementary and middle school—with a few high school curveballs thrown in for good measure. Some questions will have you confidently shouting the answer (don’t do that)... while others will leave you saying, "I KNOW I learned that!"
Whether you were the teacher's pet, the class clown, captain of the quiz bowl, or simply excelled at recess, this evening is all about laughing, learning, and discovering that your younger self may have been paying more attention than you remember.

🌎🏡 Speaker Series: From Tent to Thriving: Building Homes, Community & a Life from the Earth Featuring: Betty Seaman
What if losing almost everything became the beginning of building the life you'd always dreamed of?
Join us for an inspiring evening with Betty Seaman, natural builder, educator, mentor, and longtime advocate for sustainable living, as she shares her extraordinary journey from surviving in a tent with her young family to creating a thriving homestead built almost entirely by hand.
In 2001, Betty, her husband, and their three young children found themselves living on raw land with little more than determination, a small inheritance, and a dream. With no construction experience—and not even enough money to purchase a trailer—Betty borrowed money to attend a six-day workshop with renowned cob-building pioneer Ianto Evans.
She returned home with a simple but life-changing realization:
Anyone can build.
That single lesson transformed not only her family's future but eventually the lives of hundreds of students she has since inspired around the world.
Over the following years, Betty and her family built a village of beautiful cob homes by hand. Today, those same children have grown into accomplished builders themselves, carrying forward the skills, confidence, and independence they learned from the earth beneath their feet.
During this inspiring Speaker Series, Betty will share:

🍷✨ Speaker Series: A Life Dedicated to Sta. Rita Hills An Evening with Greg Brewer Founder & Winemaker – Brewer-Clifton, Diatom & Ex Post Facto
Few winemakers have shaped a wine region as profoundly as Greg Brewer.
Join us for a very special evening as Greg Brewer, founder and winemaker of Brewer-Clifton, Diatom, and Ex Post Facto, shares the remarkable story of his more than 30-year commitment to the Sta. Rita Hills—a region he helped map, define, establish, and elevate into one of the world's premier cool-climate wine appellations.
Hosted in conversation with his wife, Sonja Magdevski—who affectionately refers to him simply as "Cute Boy"—this intimate evening offers a rare opportunity to hear directly from one of California's most respected and influential winemakers.
Greg's path to wine was anything but conventional. Beginning his career as a French instructor at UC Santa Barbara, he soon discovered a passion that would define his life's work. After training in wine production at Santa Barbara Winery in 1991, he co-founded Brewer-Clifton in 1996, helped establish the Sta. Rita Hills AVA in 1997, served as founding winemaker for Melville Winery for nearly two decades, and later created Diatom, devoted to pure, site-driven Chardonnay, and Ex Post Facto, an exploration of Santa Barbara County Syrah.
Throughout his career, Greg has remained unwavering in his philosophy that great wines should faithfully express the vineyards from which they come.
As Greg explains:
"Each specific winery strives to harness our appellations with the utmost transparency in their own unique style. This objective is to offer the most relevant voice of our estates. While the three labels are corralled by my name, their outcome is ultimately the result of our entire Team whose devotion to every step of the process informs, motivates and inspires."
